Kristal holds a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) and in a professional career spanning 20 years has built a reputation as a leading and innovative Dance Educator. Kristal started in Dance at age three as an enthusiastic classical ballet student before going on to excel in gymnastics. After training for several years in the West Australian Institute of Sport’s elite youth gymnastics program Kristal made a change to focus solely on dance in 1992 when she was accepted into the Specialist Dance Program at John Curtin College of the Arts.

Kristal continued to forge her passion for Dance under the Direction of Ruth Osborne, one of Australia’s most prominent Contemporary Dance choreographers and youth dance specialists at Contemporary Dance Centre. Kristal developed a high level of proficiency in the key dance disciplines of Gymnastics/Acrobatics, Contemporary, Classical Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, Hip Hop and Break Dance. Kristal danced professionally and has choreographed for the 2015 Swan River Run, opening ceremonies, AFL and NBL games as well as the WA Youth Awards, The 2013 Chevron Ball, The Saba Rose Button Charity Ball and The World Aerobics and Basketball Championships. In 2016, K2Dance, under the Direction of Kristin and Kristal were invited to perform at the Australian Dance Awards, becoming the first Dance Studio in Australia to have been invited to perform at this event. Kristal has become known as an influential Dance Educator and has 15 years experience in elite West Australian Secondary Schools. At Presbyterian Ladies’ College over a period of nine years Kristal built one of WA’s largest and most successful high school Dance Programs. Under Kristal’s direction the PLC program saw years of success including the 2009 and 2010 Subject Exhibitions, as well as being named in the top five performing schools for WACE Dance five years in a row.

At Prendiville Catholic College Kristal continued her ability to inspire excellence with her Year 12 students being ranked within the top five performing schools in the state. In 2012 and 2013 Kristal was awarded the Catholic Performing Arts Dance Shield ahead of over 80 other High Schools for her excellence in Performance and Choreography. In the 2014 Inaugural Australian Independent Dance Teacher Awards K2Dance Directors Kristal Charles-Twight and Kristin Keighery were awarded the Dance Studio Teacher Award for excellence in teaching and for the successful running of a Dance Studio. The award recognized their passion for teaching and inspiring the next generation of dancers. She has written for the Curriculum Council, delivered professional development workshops for teachers across WA and worked as a moderator for the development of the West Australian Stage 2 and 3 Dance Courses.

As K2Dance Directors Kristal and Kristin have built a reputation as one of the leading Educational and Performance Based Dance Studios in WA. They have cultivated an incredible Dance Institution known for its expertise in Teaching, Choreography and Performance. K2Dance has a reputation in Australia for bringing international and National Dance Artists into the Studios and presenting Workshops, and Performance Opportunities for K2Dance students and the Wider Perth Community. Kristal and Kristin  Continue to work with Nationally and Internationally recognised Dance Choreographers and Artists including Marko Panzic, Michael Dameski, Ruth Osborne, Jason Gilkinson, Kelley Abbey, Sarah Boulter, Reed Luplau, Stephen Tannos and Caetlyn Watson.

As a Director of K2Dance Kristal has been able to successfully integrate her educational experience with the corporate Dance environment, where she continues to inspire the next generation of West Australian dancers.
